Puerto Vallarta Closes the Year with Record Figures and International Acclaim

Puerto Vallarta is closing the year by solidifying its position as one of the most robust and attractive international destinations for North American visitors, bolstered by both growing traveler demand and the strength of its airport infrastructure. According to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), approximately 122.4 million Americans will travel during the year-end holiday period, from December 20 to January 1, representing a 2.2 percent increase over the 119.7 million recorded in 2024.
Within this context of high mobility, Puerto Vallarta stands out remarkably. According to AAA’s list of most-booked international destinations—the same organization that awards Diamond ratings to luxury hotels—the Jalisco destination ranks in the Top 5 worldwide for the holiday season, surpassing iconic locales such as the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, Rome, and Sydney. This result aligns with findings previously reported by Allianz Partners USA and confirms Puerto Vallarta’s sustained appeal among American travelers, particularly during the winter months.
The preference for our destination is no coincidence. In addition to its high-end hotel offerings, excellent air connectivity, and relaxed Pacific lifestyle, a key factor comes into play: the safety and efficiency of its airport. The Puerto Vallarta International Airport recently reaffirmed its national leadership by obtaining, for the third consecutive time, its operational safety certification from the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC). This accreditation confirms that its infrastructure, equipment, and procedures fully comply with the highest standards for safe aircraft operation.
Air traffic figures further reinforce this strategic position. Through November 2025, the airport had handled 6,234,900 passengers, a 1.91 percent increase over the 6,118,000 recorded during the same period in 2024. Growth was particularly significant in November alone, with a nearly 7% increase in domestic passengers and a 2.87% rise in international travelers compared to the previous year.
Collectively, these indicators confirm that Puerto Vallarta is not only experiencing a moment of peak tourism demand but also possesses the capacity, security, and trust necessary to continue welcoming millions of visitors. It is a balance that strengthens its position as one of Mexico’s most vibrant and reliable destinations to close out the year and begin a new one.
