  • Tamales: A Celebration Dish in Vallarta · Nayarit

Tamales are symbolic of Mexican street food, especially over the festive periods and national celebrations. Along Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, this delicious dish is a celebration to share in family.

Originally a Mesoamerican dish, variations of tamales originate as far back as 8000 to 5000 BCE, and the name itself is even rooted in the Nahuatl word tamalli, meaning ‘wrapped.’

Usually made from a starchy, corn-based masa (dough), tamales are most commonly wrapped in corn husks before being steamed and served hot with spicy salsas drizzled over the top.

Street vendors can be found selling them morning, noon and night across the country.

There are literally hundreds of options available; popular ones include rajas con queso (cheese), mole de pollo (chicken), and salsa roja or salsa verde.

  • Red Button in Puerto Vallarta: What Does This New Activation Imply?

Jalisco activated the Emergency Button or Red Button, which means new updates in health and security regulations around the state.

From December 25th, 2020 to January 10th, 2021, Puerto Vallarta will be able to operate with a certain normality, except that New Year’s Eve parties in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, lounges and terraces are suspended.

Similarly, clubs, bars and cantinas must remain closed during this period.

Beaches, shopping centers, public squares and the Malecón can be enjoyed by residents and visitors with no more restrictions than the regular ones (health distancing and face masks wearing).

Public transportation service will operate on a regular basis.

Restaurants will operate with their normal hours, but elements inviting to celebrate (such as live music) are suspended.

Non-essential commerce and/or businesses will normally operate in Puerto Vallarta.
